Spiny oyster (Spondylus) comes from the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez and has been used in adornment for thousands of years. Known for its playful, creative energy, it inspires imagination and self-expression. The shells range in color from shallow-water orange to deeper coral tones, with the rare purple variety harvested from the deepest waters. Purple spiny oyster is no longer collected today due to environmental protections, making vintage pieces—like this one—especially meaningful.
